Job Summary
A leading renewable energy platform based in Madrid is looking for a Financial
Modeller with strong transactional experience and a solid understanding of the
renewable energy or infrastructure sectors. The ideal candidate will have prior
experience working in a corporate or asset owner environment (i.e. client-side), and be
able to contribute strategic insights beyond pure modelling. This role offers exposure to
M&A (buy- and sell-side), project finance, and derivative valuations, with a focus on
transactions across Spain, Portugal, and Italy. The candidate will also be responsible for
preparing and presenting quarterly valuations to the fund, requiring a high level of
precision and adaptability to market dynamics.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Modelling and Valuation
1. Build, manage, and optimize complex financial models for renewable energy
transactions and portfolios, with a high standard of accuracy and flexibility.
2.Develop and adapt models for both M&A (acquisition and divestment) and
financing processes, incorporating changing market conditions, power prices,
derivative valuations, and commercial contract structures (PPAs, EPCs, O&M,
etc.).
3. Lead the preparation of quarterly valuations of the portfolio for presentation to
the fund, ensuring robustness, clarity, and consistency across geographies. 4.
Evaluate hedging strategies and derivative instruments, with a focus on
understanding how market conditions impact value.
Transaction Execution and Project Finance:
1. Support the execution of buy- and sell-side transactions across Iberia and Italy,
including valuation, due diligence, financial structuring, and investor
presentations.
2. Contribute to debt structuring and fundraising processes (Project Finance,
HoldCo debt, mezzanine, etc.).
3. Ensure all financial models align with transaction documentation, financial
covenants, and regulatory advice.
Strategic Analysis and Reporting
1. Generate scenario analyses and sensitivities to support investment decisions and
portfolio strategy.
2. Provide insight into market trends and their financial implications, helping to
inform origination, divestment, and hedging decisions.
3. Collaborate with the wider investment team to assess value creation
opportunities.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
1. Work closely with internal stakeholders including asset management, legal,
technical, and tax teams to ensure alignment across all project phases. 2.
Maintain close communication with fund managers and external advisors to
ensure consistency in assumptions and methodology.
Requirements and Desired Competencies
1. Educational Background:
o Degree in Engineering, Economics, Mathematics, or a related
quantitative discipline.
o MBA or CFA a plus.
2. Experience:
o Minimum 4 years of experience, ideally in a renewables/infrastructure
corporate, asset manager, or investment fund.
o Background in investment banking, Big 4 (transactions or valuation
teams), or advisory is also valued, but must be complemented by
exposure to the “client-side” of transactions.
o Strong understanding of renewable energy business models and
financing structures.
o Experience working in multi-country transactions, ideally with some
exposure to the Iberian and Italian markets.
3. Technical Skills:
o Expert-level financial modelling skills; experience with F1F9-style
models a plus.
o Ability to work under pressure with high attention to detail and manage
complex model structures.
