Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Vice President Development will drive the company’s growth ambition in the Iberic Peninsula, to be the leading operator in the region.
Responsible of sourcing, negotiating and closing all the development projects of the company, for all Premium, Midscale, Economy brands in Spain and Portugal.
Lead and coach the development team to reach growth objectives, drive retention in the region and support openings.
The position is based in Madrid and requires fluency in English and Spanish.
- Take part to the deployment of the company’s global development strategy
- Ensure all deals are signed off through approved internal protocol, including investment submissions, hotel management proposals, hotel franchise proposals and brand validations
- Consider the financial impact on the company for all activities and commitments
- Establish procedures, processes and accurate information that support key financial objectives
- Negotiate franchise and management agreements
- Identify and target industries that may support the development of new hotels as complementary uses to their core business
- Coordinate market analysis, underwriting and financial analysis with development analyst team
- Responsible for managing the workflow of projects and tasks across the company’s team to ensure that all proposals and responses to stakeholders can be delivered in a timely fashion to provide the company with the best opportunity to secure new deals.
- Manage and distribute the workload of the members within the development team in Spain and Portugal to ensure all proposal and lead requests are responded to in a timely manner and to the highest quality
- Ensure that the team is focused on delivering their individual and the development team KPIs
- Manage department budgets
- Fluent in English and Spanish
- Proven experience in hotel development and selling a hotel brand and operating organization
- A proven ability to manage all types of contracts, all types of projects, new building, hotel and office conversions, individual, combined projects or small portfolios.
- Demonstrated track record of sourcing, selling, negotiating and executing hotel management and license agreements
- Knowledge of various property market trends, property valuation, property law, property development, accounting and finance
- In depth knowledge of Spanish hotel market, key players, investors, local operators, resort operators.
- Good knowledge of the main actors, developers, construction companies, brokers, agents
- Ability to understand and navigate complex stakeholder environments
- Ability to lead sales and marketing processes, understanding of branding, licensing and royalty business models
- Demonstrated business acumen with the ability to make sound decisions and understand commercial implications
- Ability to analyze and grasp the operational and organizational strategies and objectives established by others
- Entrepreneurial spirit with drive, ambition and high level of energy
- Master Degree in Business, Hospitality or Property Economics
- Strong problem solver with ability to manage and lead the team towards solution and progress
- Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, develop and inspire teams
- A leader who thrives at influencing and persuading
- Team player, energetic and positive thinking, service-oriented and able to work in a highly dynamic and fast paced environment
